The national carrier of Sri Lanka, was launched in 1979 as "Air Lanka" following the termination of operations of the former national carrier, Air Ceylon. The airline underwent a major rebranding in 1999 after a strategic partnership was formed with Emirates. Today, it is a member of the prestigious oneworld airline alliance, which connects it to a vast global network of destinations and service standards shared by some of the world's leading carriers.

​The airline operates its main hub at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. It maintains a strong presence in South Asia, particularly in India, where it has historically operated more flights than any other foreign carrier. Its route network extends across Asia, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East, playing a vital role in connecting Sri Lanka to the world and supporting the country’s tourism industry through its signature "SriLankan hospitality."

​The current fleet consists entirely of Airbus aircraft, featuring a mix of wide-body planes like the A330 for long-haul routes and narrow-body planes like the A320 and A321 for regional flights. Passengers are offered a choice between Business Class and Economy Class, both known for their high-quality in-flight entertainment and authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. The airline’s commitment to service has earned it numerous international accolades for punctuality, cabin service, and overall excellence.

​Beyond passenger transport, the company operates several key subsidiaries, including SriLankan Catering, which provides meals for various international airlines, and a comprehensive Ground Handling department that services all airlines flying into Colombo. Despite facing economic challenges in recent years, the airline remains a symbol of national pride, continuously working toward restructuring and fleet expansion to better serve the modern traveler.
