-The importance of sinhala language -

Sinhala is the mother tongue of Sri Lanka, a language with a very rich history. The speciality of this language is that everyone who speaks Sinhala can easily pronounce all other languages. That's the magic of Sinhala. We've often seen foreigners speaking Sinhala, but with pronunciation errors. Yet, people in our country who speak different languages can speak those languages perfectly.

There are many languages in the world like English, Tamil, Latin, Greek, French, etc. The usage of those languages is higher compared to Sinhala. It's a pity that only a small number of the 22 million people living in Sri Lanka use Sinhala today.

Meanwhile, it's a special fact that a Chinese girl, Shang Chun Ya, has chosen Sinhala as her degree course at the International Language University of China. In a TV program with a Sri Lankan channel, she said that she could have learned any other language, but she chose Sinhala because it's spoken only in one country, and she wanted to do something special. We should thank her for that.

It's sad to see such a special language being on the verge of extinction. In a world that's developing, using other languages is not a mistake, but it's our duty to protect our own.
